Story Design Studio sits ahead of Story Renovations. It turns an idea into a conversation; Story Renovations runs everything that follows.
Story Renovations
Section titled “Story Renovations”The product carrying the business, serving homeowners renovating their homes and the internal team managing that work.
Its distinguishing capability is design — a phased process running from visioning through schematic design, design development, finish selections, and final design, with the client participating throughout.
Story Renovations speaks residential design-build:
Kitchen Remodel · Basement Remodel · Home Addition · Whole Home · Design-Build · Design-Only · Interiors-Only · Schematic Design · Design Development · Final Design · Finish Selections · Visioning
Its project team is a Project Planner, Design Manager, Site Manager, Interior Designer, and the Client.
What it covers
Section titled “What it covers”Story runs a renovation end to end: leads and intake, the phased design process, quotes, contracts and change orders, budgets and cost control, billing, purchasing, scheduling, the daily site record, and the documents and conversations along the way.
What Story covers → breaks each area down by the job it does.
Story Design Studio
Section titled “Story Design Studio”AI-powered design inspiration, and the widest part of the funnel. Its own copy describes it:
“Story Design Studio — Reimagine Your Space” “Upload photos of your room, define your goals, and get personalized design concepts before you meet with your Story Designer.”
Upload photos of a room, define what you want, and get personalized design concepts back. The flow ends by handing you into the design process, which makes it the entry point to Story Renovations rather than a separate business.
It is deliberately narrow. It does not touch projects, cost codes, or money.
Where Knotty Iron fits
Section titled “Where Knotty Iron fits”Knotty Iron is a legacy name under the Story brand. It comes from Knotty Iron Trading Company of Denver, the older entity behind the business, and it names the construction management application that has run the work for over a decade.
That application established the foundation Story is built on: what a project is, how cost is classified, how money is committed and spent, and how work gets billed. A decade of production use settled those definitions, which is why Story builds on them rather than replacing them.
The name still surfaces in some emails, footers, and login screens. It is the same company and the same work — see the FAQ.
Knotty Iron’s vocabulary came from commercial general contracting:
Request for Information · Submittal · Transmittal · Invitation to Bid · subcontract · CPM schedule · Job Hazard Analysis · retention · certificate of insurance
Story uses residential language instead. The glossary maps the terms that changed.
